Economic growth remains below 4 percent. Murati stated that the complete dysfunction of institutions is the cause.

Finance Minister Hekuran Murati addressed criticisms from opposition deputies concerning the government’s response to escalating oil prices. Initially, he highlighted that economic growth reached 3.6 percent during the previous year, a figure previously disputed by PDK leader Bedri Hamza who asserted it represented a low rate in recent times. Murati directly responded to these concerns, attributing the growth to “complete institutional dysfunction.” He emphasized that this economic performance was significantly impacted by the state of the institutions.

He specifically referenced the IMF report, noting that Mr. Hamza had previously accepted the 3.6 percent figure. However, Murati maintained that this percentage was also a consequence of “complete institutional dysfunction.” He pointed out that the Parliament of the Republic of Kosovo was not effectively functioning throughout last year, actively preventing numerous reforms.

Consequently, according to Murati, the 3.6 percent growth figure accurately reflects the situation. He reiterated that the lack of parliamentary action contributed substantially to the economic outcome. The minister’s response underscored the government’s perspective on the economic growth rate and the role of institutional challenges.
