Eight cases of measles have been reported in Kosovo, the IKSHPK urges parents to vaccinate their children.

Measles Cases Rise in Kosovo; Vaccination Urged

Kosovo has reported eight confirmed cases of measles, prompting a public health response from the Institute of Public Health of Kosovo (IKSHPK) and healthcare institutions. Authorities are closely monitoring the epidemiological situation and preparing for comprehensive management strategies. The confirmed cases involve unvaccinated children, according to the IKSHPK.

The Institute emphasizes that measles is a serious illness, significantly more contagious than influenza – estimated to be approximately six times as transmissible. A concerning statistic indicates that one in five individuals infected with measles may experience severe complications. To address the situation, the IKSHPK is actively identifying unvaccinated children and deploying mobile vaccination teams to areas with lower vaccination coverage rates.

The Institute’s efforts are focused on increasing immunization rates within the population. Public Health officials are urging parents to ensure their children are fully vaccinated against measles. Further information regarding vaccination locations and schedules will be disseminated by the IKSHPK.

The total number of cases remains at eight.
