Electoral Commission awaits Supreme Court’s decision, Baraliu: No reason for a full recount of votes

The Central Election Commission (CEC) is currently awaiting a decision from the Supreme Court concerning appeals lodged against the election results that were announced on June 27. The final certification of these results is contingent upon the outcome of this judicial process. Valmir Elezi, a spokesperson for the CEC, addressed KosovaPress regarding the next steps.

Elezi indicated that the Commission’s ability to certify the results hinges on the directives issued by the Supreme Court. Specifically, he stated that if the Supreme Court’s decisions impose no obligations upon the CEC, the institution will be able to proceed with the certification. However, Elezi clarified that should the Supreme Court’s rulings introduce any mandates or obligations, these directives must be implemented first.

Only after fulfilling these stipulated requirements will the process of certifying the election results commence. In summary, the CEC remains in a holding pattern, awaiting the definitive ruling from the Supreme Court regarding the appeals. The status of the final results and the subsequent certification process are directly linked to the judicial pronouncements expected from the Supreme Court.
