Eurojust reacts to SPAK action: 12 arrested and 1 million euros seized

Eurojust issued a statement confirming the conclusion of a major joint law enforcement operation conducted on May 26, 2026. The effort involved the SPAK and the Anti-Mafia Directorate of Bari, targeting a sophisticated criminal organization suspected of involvement in international drug trafficking, money laundering schemes, and homicide. The coordinated investigation spanned both Italian and Albanian territories.

Authorities reported the immediate results of the action included the detention of twelve individuals, while three others were subsequently released on bail pending further review. The underlying impetus for the operation relates to the unsolved murder of 26-year-old Italian national, Francesco Diviesti, which occurred the previous May. Italian law enforcement agencies have since established a connection between Diviesti’s death and the activities of a transnational criminal network operating across the borders of Italy and Albania.

In addition to the arrests, investigative teams successfully uncovered evidence detailing the laundering of approximately one million euros, funds reportedly derived from illicit criminal enterprises. The involvement of Eurojust underscores the transnational nature of the investigation, facilitating cooperation between multiple national jurisdictions. The coordinated efforts between SPAK and Italian anti-mafia units are continuing to dismantle the structure of the criminal group implicated in these serious offenses.
