Court Determines Stojanoviq Fit to Stand Trial in War Crimes Case
Pristina, Kosovo – In the ongoing trial concerning allegations of war crimes in the Gjilan region of Kosovo, the Basic Court in Pristina ruled Monday that defendant Nenad Stojanoviq is mentally fit to proceed with the trial. The case involves Dragan Cvetkoviç, Dragan Niciq, Milosh Shoshiq, Nenad Stojanoviq, and Slobodan Jetivq, who are accused of offenses related to the 1999 conflict. The court dismissed a defense request for super-expertise evaluations conducted at the Skopje Psychiatric Clinic.
A panel of experts from the Forensic Psychiatric Institute of Kosovo (IPFK), including Shpend Haxhibeqiri, Bujar Obërtinca, and Arife Ve, presented their findings. Following the hearing, the trial chamber determined Stojanoviq was capable of understanding the legal proceedings. The decision reflects a standard assessment within the legal process for individuals facing charges of war crimes.
The investigation continues as the court examines evidence related to the alleged crimes committed in the Gjilan area. This trial is a significant step in addressing allegations of serious offenses during the 1999 conflict.
