Five Serbs arrested for the Recak massacre, Prosecution and Police provide details

A joint operation conducted by the Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo and the Kosovo Police has resulted in the arrested of five individuals concerning the investigation known as “Reçaku II,” which pertains to war crimes allegations. During a press conference following the operation, Special Prosecutor Ilir Morina confirmed that the detentions were executed based on a judicial order. Morina stated that the five individuals were apprehended on suspicion of involvement in the events surrounding the Recak massacre.

Bashkim Spahiu, Director of the Directorate for the Investigation of War Crimes within the Kosovo Police, reported that the arrested suspects are Serbian citizens of Kosovo, noting that another suspect remains at large. Spahiu added that the operation yielded significant evidence and materials deemed relevant to the ongoing war crimes investigation. Prosecutor Morina specified that the five people detained are suspected of belonging to units commanded by Goran Radosavljevic during the war in Kosovo.

He emphasized the importance of their alleged involvement in the investigated events. Morina also highlighted that thorough investigations into the Recak massacre had been lacking serious progress prior to 2020. Regarding the identification of the suspects, Morina detailed that investigators utilized various materials, including television recordings published by RTK and Radio Television of Serbia.

The authorities announced that investigations into the “Reçaku II” case are scheduled to continue in the near future.
