Former CIA chief, General Petraeus: Ukraine uses over 10,000 drones per day, US lags far behind in production

Former CIA director and retired General David Petraeus has commented on the advanced capabilities of Ukraine regarding the use and production of drones, asserting that the nation has reached an exceptional level in this domain, surpassing even the United States. Petraeus stated, “Ukraine is now using 10,000 or more drones a day. That’s just amazing.”

According to his assessment, Ukraine produced an estimated 3.5 million drones in the previous year, contrasting sharply with the approximately 300,000 units produced by the United States.

The former CIA chief emphasized the technological gap, noting, “We don’t have anything similar to what they have,” thereby highlighting the critical role drones now play in contemporary warfare. Petraeus suggested that the conflict in Ukraine has fundamentally altered military operational procedures, establishing unmanned technology as a central element on the battlefield. The significant escalation in Ukrainian drone manufacturing capacity is attributed to the necessity of confronting the Russian military.

In response, Kyiv has reportedly made substantial investments into developing its domestic unmanned vehicle industry.
