A representative from the Kosovar Farmers’ Association for Dairy addressed a protest organized to support local dairy farmers, who are reportedly experiencing significant economic difficulties. The representative stated that local producers are vital to the country’s supply chain, asserting that the milk produced domestically is safe and necessary. He emphasized that despite years of advocating for protective measures, the sector has not received adequate support.
The core grievance presented during the demonstration in Pristina involved the impact of imported dairy products. The association called upon relevant institutions to halt the import of subsidized milk originating from neighboring countries, including Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, and others in the region. The group argues that this influx of subsidized goods is severely undermining local production capabilities and threatening the livelihood of the farmers.
The protest, which involved demonstrators pouring milk in front of a ministry building, highlighted the urgency of the situation. According to the representative, the conditions faced by the farmers have reached an alarming level, noting that the industry has been struggling for four consecutive days. The primary demand centers on implementing policies that shield local farmers and ensure the viability of the domestic milk industry against perceived unfair international competition.
