From seconds to euros, why is precise time important? What is happening with current transformers?

A troubling problem concerning incorrect electricity tariffs arose in Kosovo on April 1st. This followed the dismissal of multiple members from a commission created by the Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship, Trade and Innovation (MINTI). The commission’s formation stemmed from research conducted by the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) and the local news source, Nacionale.

Their investigation, utilizing around 2,000 samples, revealed significant differences between electricity meter readings and local time. Authorities maintain that a defined tolerance for inaccuracy exists, amounting to +/- 0.5 seconds per day. This allowance is contingent on factors such as temperature and the length of the metering period.

However, many citizens dispute this, asserting that errors extend to several hours, as reported by Lëvizja Çlirimore. The critical need for accurate timing is paramount for determining electricity costs. The issue centers on discrepancies in the recorded times of electricity consumption.

The commission’s dissolution does not resolve the core concern regarding the validity of electricity pricing within Kosovo. Further investigation into these timing inaccuracies is considered essential.
