FSK is engaged in extinguishing the fire at the landfill in Sferkë e Pejës

The Kosovo Security Force (FSK) deployed specialized units to the village of Sferkë, located within the Peja Municipality, in response to a significant fire at a local waste depot. The deployment followed the escalation and spread of the blaze, necessitating a coordinated security intervention across the area of Kosovo. According to an official statement from the FSK, the operational response was initiated after the FSK Operational Center received a request from the Situation Center of the Secretariat of the Kosovo Security Council.

In response to this directive, the FSK immediately conducted a comprehensive risk and response capacity assessment. The FSK announced that following the necessary analysis, and under the order of the FSK Commander, Lieutenant General Bashkim Jashari, specialized units of the National Guard were mobilized. These units were equipped with the requisite capacity for disaster intervention and were deployed directly to the site.

The primary objective of the operation, as stated by the FSK, was to contain and isolate the fire promptly. The mobilization of these resources underscores the force’s readiness to manage large-scale incidents impacting civil infrastructure. The swift deployment of the FSK units aimed to mitigate further damage caused by the waste depot fire, ensuring a controlled response to the emergency situation in the municipality.
