Google has reportedly been developing a feature that allows users to unlock their Pixel watch by unlocking their paired Pixel phone. This functionality, identified through code snippets within the latest Connected Phone & Watch app, suggests a “Phone Unlock with Watch” capability. Currently, Google’s Pixel watch already supports the Watch Unlock feature, enabling phone access using the wearable device.
The reverse functionality aims to streamline the user experience by automatically unlocking the Pixel watch whenever the paired Pixel phone is unlocked. While the implementation is anticipated to be exclusive to the Pixel ecosystem—requiring a Pixel phone paired with a Pixel watch—the feature promises to eliminate the need for manual PIN or pattern entry on the watch. Instead, unlocking the phone will automatically grant access to the watch’s functions.
Users can also anticipate receiving proactive notifications, such as an “Unlock” alert, when this feature is active. This development represents an enhancement to the integration between the Pixel phone and the Pixel watch, aiming for greater convenience and seamless interaction between the two devices.
