Health reasons, Kaja Kallas is not going to Montenegro

The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kathia Kallas, has canceled her scheduled trip to Montenegro due to health concerns. The cancellation means she will be unable to attend key regional diplomatic events, including the EU-Western Balkans Summit in Tivat and the Dialogue on the Neighborhood Policy in Budva. Sources confirm that the decision stems from her current health status, necessitating that she remain home.

Kallas has acknowledged the cancellation, expressing regret for missing the summit. She stated that she is continuing to work remotely and anticipates returning to her office within the coming days. Despite the change in plans, diplomatic activity remains focused on the Western Balkans.

Ahead of the summit in Montenegro, Germany and France prepared a joint “non-paper” addressing the region’s strategic priorities. Furthermore, Kallas had planned engagements in Budva, which included meeting with youth representatives from across the region and Europe, as well as the official launch of the Western Balkans Youth Forum. Her absence impacts these planned youth initiatives.

The cancellation underscores the immediate impact of health issues on high-level diplomatic scheduling in the region.
