Rising temperatures and dry conditions across the fields have necessitated an increased number of firefighting interventions. According to the Territorial Unit against Fire in Tetovë, the unit manages at least ten such interventions daily. The unit reported that approximately 90 percent of these incidents are attributed to agricultural burning by farmers.
Speaking on the matter, officials noted that the high volume of calls is correlated with the ongoing barley harvest. Farmers clearing the fields are initiating numerous fires, contributing to the high daily count of interventions. Due to the seasonal nature of the threat, the firefighting team remains fully mobilized, as July and August constitute the peak “fire season.”
The necessity for constant readiness means that personnel cannot take leave during this period, requiring the entire team to remain on active duty.
Furthermore, the unit confirmed that it receives substantial support from the local sub-station, which aids in managing the consistent influx of emergencies related to the dry conditions across the agricultural lands.
