Hoti Criticizes Government Response to Rising Fuel Prices
Pristina – Deputy Avdullah Hoti, a member of the LDK leadership, has expressed concern over the continued rise in fuel prices, citing the government’s perceived inaction. Speaking to EURO n’T7 on April 17, 2026, Hoti stated that citizens are currently paying up to 36 cents more per liter of fuel due to the government’s response to global oil price increases. Hoti attributed the price hikes to the transmission of international oil market fluctuations to Kosovo.
He directly challenged statements made by government officials who argue that interventions, such as lowering excise taxes and Value Added Tax (VAT), result in a 10 million euro budgetary loss. “Adjusting excise duties can be done very quickly,” Hoti asserted. “There is a proposal currently in the parliamentary committee awaiting approval, which would allow for a swift adjustment of the excise duty.” He further suggested that the collection of the relevant parliamentary commission would be sufficient to offset any revenue loss.
The debate centers around the government’s approach to mitigating the impact of rising fuel costs on Kosovo’s citizens. Hoti’s comments highlight a growing criticism of the government’s handling of the situation.
