Hykmete Bajrami hands over a criminal complaint regarding the situation at the Sferka depot in Peja

LDK-elected deputy Hykmete Bajrami has filed a criminal complaint concerning the ongoing fire at the waste depot in Sferkë e Pejë. Bajrami submitted the complaint to both the State Prosecutor and the Chief Prosecutor of the Special Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Kosovo. She is requesting a formal investigation into the accountability of the institutions and officials responsible for the management and supervision of the depot.

In her statement, Bajrami noted that the regional depot has been burning for five days, posing a serious threat to both public health and the environment. She contended that the core issue predates the fire itself, arguing that the problem stems from years of inadequate management practices at the site. The filing of this complaint signals a formal inquiry into the systemic failures surrounding the waste facility.

Bajrami’s action aims to establish responsibility for the sustained environmental hazard. By bringing this matter before the prosecutor’s offices, she seeks accountability for the oversight failures that allowed the situation to deteriorate to this point. The focus of the investigation, as detailed by Bajrami, is not solely on the fire but on the cumulative mismanagement that allegedly created the dangerous conditions.

This move by the deputy underscores a call for rigorous governmental oversight and necessary reforms regarding waste management infrastructure in the region.
