The Basic Court in Peja has issued a verdict concerning charges of triple homicide against several individuals, including Halil, Kastriot, and Kreshnik Mehmetaj. In the proceedings, Kastriot and Kreshnik Mehmetaj were found not guilty of the felony charge of “aggravated murder.” Furthermore, Halil Mehmetaj was acquitted of the specific charge of “aggravated murder by pushing.” Separately, Kastriot Mehmetaj was also acquitted regarding the charge of unauthorized possession of weapons. Despite these acquittals on the primary homicide charges, the court did find Halil and Kreshnik Mehmetaj guilty of the felony related to the unauthorized carrying, control, or possession of weapons.
Consequently, the court handed down specific sentences to both men. Halil Mehmetaj was sentenced to three years in prison, while Kreshnik Mehmetaj received a one-year sentence. It was stipulated that these sentences would only become enforceable after the judgment has been declared final.
Additionally, any time already served by the convicts in pre-trial detention will be credited against their respective sentences. The court’s decision represents a mixed outcome for the defendants, with some individuals being acquitted while others faced conviction on weapon-related charges.
