Speaking to the BBC, German captain Joshua Kimmich reported that the team observed a venomous snake at their base located in North Carolina.
Kimmich specified that the reptile was identified as a rattlesnake. While acknowledging that a bite is not always fatal, he emphasized that the snake poses a significant danger. The presence of such wildlife has reportedly affected the routine preparations for the major tournament the players are preparing for.
Kimmich noted that the unexpected natural hazards have drawn the players’ attention away from their training focus. “We are preparing here for the most important tournament in football, and unexpectedly, the players are looking at the field at every step,” he stated. The team members are taking precautions to avoid interaction with the local fauna.
Kimmich added that while they respect the local population, the experience has highlighted a noticeable difference compared to their home country. He remarked, “I have the impression that there are not many animals in Germany,” suggesting that the current environment presents a unique and unexpected challenge to their concentration.
