Iker Casillas sues Porto, demands millions of euros in damages

Legendary Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas has initiated a lawsuit against his former club, Porto, seeking substantial damages related to a heart attack he experienced during training in May 2019. Seven years following the incident that significantly curtailed his professional career, Casillas alleges that the heart attack was the direct result of a workplace accident stemming from physical overload. The legal action was filed in a court in Porto, citing the ongoing inability to work and the serious, long-term consequences he has faced over the past seven years.

During the proceedings, the former goalkeeper provided details on how his life has been altered. Casillas contrasted his current physical limitations with his past capabilities as a high-level professional athlete. “I can go to the gym and lift weights, but I cannot run.

I can only manage 20 to 50 meters, and that’s it,” Casillas stated during the hearing. The lawsuit centers on the claim that the club’s environment or the physical demands placed upon him contributed to the cardiac event. Casillas’ legal team is seeking compensation that addresses both the lost earning capacity and the lasting impact on his quality of life.

The dispute highlights the ongoing dispute between the former star and Porto regarding the medical fallout from that training session.
