In Macedonia, weddings keep the gold market alive, despite high prices

Current international markets indicate a continued upward trend in the prices of gold. As of recent reporting, a quarter ounce of gold is priced around 850 euros, while the cost for one troy ounce (31.1 grams) has reached approximately 3,736 euros, setting the price for one gram at roughly 120 euros. Consumer sentiment reflects concern regarding these escalating costs.

Some individuals expressed caution about major expenditures, such as wedding preparations, referencing significant spending amounts in the thousands of euros. Conversely, sellers report that the overall increase in gold prices since January has negatively impacted sales volume. They observe that buyers are becoming more selective, opting for more affordable models rather than making large purchases.

Despite the recent upward movement, some vendors argue that the current price escalation is not unprecedented. They point out that the gold price in January was significantly higher, noting that at that time, a kilogram of gold was valued at 150,000 euros. Sellers added that the price had previously experienced a decline following geopolitical instability, providing context to the current market fluctuations in euros.
