Social Network Usage Remains High Among Young People Across Europe
Despite growing concerns and restrictions implemented by numerous countries globally, social network usage continues to be prevalent among young people. Recent data from Eurostat reveals that in 19 out of 27 European Union member states, over 90% of individuals aged 16 to 29 reported using social networks in 2025. The highest rates of usage were observed in Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, and Finland.
Conversely, Italy, Germany, and Luxembourg recorded the lowest percentages of young people engaging with these platforms. Following Australia’s December ban on social networks for individuals under 16, European nations are currently evaluating potential restrictions. France recently passed legislation blocking access for those under 15, with President Emmanuel Macron aiming for implementation.
These findings highlight a persistent trend of young people’s engagement with online social platforms. The data underscores the ongoing debate surrounding appropriate regulation of social networks across various countries and the need for further investigation into usage patterns and potential impacts.
