The Kosovan energy sector persists in facing substantial difficulties, largely due to insufficient investment in new production capabilities. This situation has intensified dependence on imports and driven up expenses for residents. Visar Azemi, representing the LDK, voiced strong criticism in the “Përballje Podcast,” accusing the government of a total lack of proactive development within the energy sector.
Azemi asserted that virtually nothing has been constructed; “only a few rudimentary foundations have been established, and they have remained untouched.” He highlighted the age of existing power plants, noting that, under typical conditions, they should have been retired due to exceeding their operational lifespan. The current energy infrastructure, including facilities like Kosovo A and Kosovo B, is considered outdated. These plants would necessitate closure if operating according to standard industry practices.
Azemi underscored the urgent need for fresh investment to modernize the sector and secure a reliable energy supply for the nation. The lack of action has created a precarious situation, demanding immediate attention to bolster the country’s energy resources.
