Iran’s team arrives in the USA for the first World match – met with protests

The Iranian national football team arrived in the United States on Sunday, several hours before President Donald Trump was scheduled to announce a peace agreement with Iran. The squad landed in Los Angeles after traveling from Tijuana, Mexico, one day before their world Cup opening match against New Zealand on Monday. This marks the first instance in World Cup history where a host nation has been in conflict with one of the participating teams.

According to current regulations from U.S. authorities, the team is currently situated in a training camp located in Mexico and must travel to the United States for its scheduled matches. During a press conference held at the Los Angeles stadium, the Iranian coach, Amir Ghalenoei, stated, “I hope that football brings joy and pleasure, as well as brings cultures and places closer.”

The presence of the Iran team in the U.S.

adds a unique layer to the tournament proceedings. Despite the geopolitical context surrounding the world Cup, the focus remains on the sporting event. The team is preparing for its opening fixture, which takes place the following day.
