Volkswagen has historically not produced a dedicated supercar, a category the manufacturer has reportedly never entered. The closest the company came to such a vehicle was over twenty-five years ago with the development of W12 prototypes. Despite these early explorations, Volkswagen did not proceed with a dedicated supercar model, leaving the market segment to other brands within the Volkswagen Group.
However, a recent project by a design intern has significantly altered this perception. Fabian Reitz, during his internship at Volkswagen Design, developed the VW ID.DIN T14 concept. This design was subsequently shared by Andreas Mindt, the head of Volkswagen Group and Brand Design, via Instagram.
The presentation of the concept was noted for exceeding typical sketches or artistic renderings. Volkswagen took these initial designs and developed them into a full-scale model. Mindt described the concept as “bold” in his accompanying Instagram post.
This development suggests a potential shift in Volkswagen’s approach to high-performance design, even though the company has never officially built a modern supercar. The ID.DIN T14 represents a notable evolution from past efforts, drawing attention to the potential future direction of the brand in the high-performance vehicle sector.
