A Meta employee allegedly bypassed Facebook’s internal security controls to access images, according to court documents in the United Kingdom. A detective with the Metropolitan Police’s cybercrime unit has initiated a criminal investigation, as reported by Telegrafi. Meta, the parent company of Facebook, confirmed the suspected breach occurred over a year ago and stated it had directly referred the matter to law enforcement.
The social media giant, based in the United States, indicated that affected users were notified and the employee in question was subsequently terminated. Furthermore, Meta affirmed that its security systems have been enhanced following the discovery. The engineer, residing in London, was released on conditional bail as the investigation continues.
A recent request to modify the terms of his conditional release was approved by the court.
