Ish-ushtari Australian arrested for crimes in Afghanistan

Australian police apprehended a 47-year-old man at Sydney Airport and formally charged him with air piracy related to incidents in Afghanistan. The Federal Police were involved in the investigation. The individual, identified as Burri, faced prior charges of air piracy in 2009 and 2012.

A joint declaration was made by the Zyra e Hetuesit Special (OSI) and the Australian Federal Police regarding these charges. Despite the accusations, Burri has not been formally prosecuted. Media reports previously linked him to the case as one of the individuals involved in the alleged air piracy.

Burri’s defense stated that the maximum sentence for this offense is 53 days. He asserts that 39 of those days have already been served, relating to incidents occurring within the airspace of Australian forces in Afghanistan.
