ISHP declares gastrointestinal epidemic in Gostivar; 204 patients sought medical assistance today

The Institute of Public Health has declared a gastrointestinal epidemic within the Municipality of Gostivar. This declaration follows the consistent exceeding of the weekly threshold for individuals seeking medical care presenting with symptoms primarily involving vomiting and diarrhea. According to the Institute, the volume of patients presenting for assistance indicates a sustained increase in cases.

On the day the report was issued, the infectious diseases department recorded 204 patients, three of whom required hospitalization. Furthermore, the Pediatrics department reported 145 patients, of whom 105 were identified as new cases. In addition to these figures, the Emergency Department received nine patients presenting with symptoms consistent with diarrhea and vomiting, contributing to the rising caseload.

The Institute stated that the declaration of an epidemic status is necessary given the current volume of patients. Officials noted that this formal status is crucial because it will facilitate improved coordination among various health sectors responsible for managing the outbreak. The continuous influx of patients underscores the need for heightened public health measures and coordinated medical responses to mitigate the spread of the illness.

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely to ensure adequate resources are available for all patients requiring assistance.
