Isufaj on Haxhi’s statement: No one is above the law

Blerim Isufaj, the Prosecutor General of the Special Prosecutor’s Office of Kosovo, declined to comment on a recent statement issued by the acting President of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu. The questioning arose during a press conference where Isufaj was addressing the Special Prosecutor’s Office’s ongoing operations. During the session, media representatives sought clarification regarding the acting President’s public statement, which concerned the potential declaration of bankruptcy for the State Prosecutor.

In response, Isufaj emphasized his professional boundaries, stating that he would not offer commentary on the political remarks made by others. Addressing the media directly, Isufaj advised that inquiries of this nature should be directed to the Bar Association of Kosovo. He reiterated his stance, clarifying that his office policy prevents him from commenting on the political statements of any individual.

“These are questions that you can direct to the Bar Association of Kosovo; I do not comment on anyone’s political statements; I do not comment on anyone’s statements,” Isufaj stated. The refusal by the prosecutor general to engage with the political dimensions of the issue marks a clear delineation between the operational duties of the Special Prosecutor’s Office and the political commentary made by high-ranking officials. Isufaj maintained that his focus during the conference remained strictly on the operational announcements of the office, thereby dismissing the acting President’s statement as outside the scope of his commentary.
