Kërçovë-Ohër Highway with Record Cost

The public enterprise “State Roads” is set to receive financial support through loans from other state-owned companies to help cover a portion of its existing debt obligations to a Chinese creditor. This indicates that the government plans to secure external financing to manage its outstanding liabilities, pending necessary budget revisions. In recent legislative sessions, the government has taken concrete steps to secure these funds.

Two weeks prior to this report, the government successfully arranged an interest-free loan of 7 million euros from M-Nav. Furthermore, during a session held on April 14, approvals were granted for “State Roads” to secure additional loans from “Macedonian Navigation,” the State Lottery, and the electricity transmission operator, MEPSO. These financial mechanisms are primarily earmarked for funding the construction and completion of the Kërçovë – Ohër highway.

According to the Prime Minister, the utilization of these newly acquired funds is focused on addressing outstanding debts related to existing bank loans. The overall strategy demonstrates the government’s commitment to maintaining essential infrastructure while restructuring its financial obligations across various state entities.
