The Judicial Council of Kosovo (KGJK) voted today to reject the appeal from Serbian judges and staff seeking to withdraw their resignations from the judicial system. The decision was passed at the KGJK’s meeting with nine votes in favor, one vote against, and one abstention. The Chairman of the KGJK, Rrustem Thaqi, abstained from the vote, while Justice Mechanism member Ivana Milenkoviq cast the dissenting vote.
Following this ruling, the process will advance with the submission of the names of the resigned individuals to the acting President, Albulena Haxhiu, for formal removal from office. In response to the KGJK’s decision, the acting President of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, welcomed the ruling that declines to reinstate the Serbian judges and staff who initially resigned in 2022. The rejection by the kgjk marks a procedural step in managing the status of these personnel within Kosovo’s judiciary.
The proceedings will now focus on the administrative action of having the resigned individuals officially removed from their positions by the acting President.
