The Islamic Shqiptar community of St. Gallen is planning to construct a new mosque with an estimated cost of 15 million francs. The project, slated for discussion on a global scale, will see 30 Shqiptarë participate in a public forum on Fürstenlandstrasse in 2025.
Currently, the initiative is in its early stages and organizers have not yet submitted an official building request or provided detailed project specifications. Visualizations depict a 1,000-square-meter building featuring a white dome, designed by Cyrih, an Albanian architect based in Schlieren. Cyrih is also responsible for the design of the Shqiptar mosque in Winterthur-Töss.
The prayer hall will offer space for communal gatherings. The community’s stated goal, expressed in Albanian as “Allahu na ndihmoftë që ndërtimi i xhamisë sonë të jetë sa më i lehtë” (May God help that the construction of our new mosque is as easy as possible), reflects their ambition for a straightforward and accessible building process.
