KPK: Parties and candidates should not instrumentalize issues of the justice institutions for electoral political purposes

The Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPK) has issued a directive urging all political parties and candidates to refrain from incorporating prosecutorial system issues into their public election discourse. In a formal declaration, the KPK stated that such discussions undermine the public perception and confidence in the rule of law within Kosovo. The Council specifically called upon all political entities and candidates to moderate their public statements, advising against the use of prosecutorial matters as a campaign talking point.

The KPK emphasized that leveraging justice-related issues for electoral advantage is detrimental to the institutional integrity of the justice system. The statement underscores the need for political actors to maintain a separation between political campaigning and the judicial process. By cautioning against politicizing prosecutorial concerns, the KPK aims to preserve public trust in the impartiality and effectiveness of the legal framework.

This advisory serves as a public appeal to all stakeholders, reminding them that the integrity of the justice sector must remain above partisan political maneuvering. The KPK believes that maintaining a focus on policy platforms, rather than judicial critique, will better serve the democratic process and uphold the rule of law in Kosovo.

  1. The KPK’s warning about politicizing justice issues seems like a necessary measure to maintain institutional credibility.
