Krenar Lloga Calls for Supreme Court Focus in Justice Reform
Skopje – Former Justice Minister, Krenar Lloga, has issued a strong statement asserting that any meaningful judicial reform in North Macedonia must prioritize the Supreme Court of the Republic. Speaking on May 2nd, 2026, Lloga argued that if the Hristijan Mickoski government is genuinely committed to systemic change, the Supreme Court should be the initial point of focus. Lloga highlighted concerns regarding several key issues within the judicial system.
He specifically referenced instances of overturned rulings, questionable retrials, and contested financial agreements that warrant investigation. The former minister also voiced anxieties about the manipulation of the AKMIS system and the significant financial losses experienced by the state at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. “Without addressing these fundamental problems,” Lloga stated, “any proposed justice reform risks remaining largely symbolic and ineffective.” He emphasized the need for a thorough examination of the Supreme Court’s operations to ensure accountability and transparency.
The call for reform underscores a critical debate surrounding the direction of the North Macedonian judicial system.
