Security expert Gurakuç Kuçi has disputed claims suggesting the persecution of Orthodox Serbs in Kosovo, asserting that the situation on the ground does not support such allegations. Kuçi highlighted that Kosovo’s institutions have implemented ongoing measures to safeguard Orthodox religious sites and cultural heritage. According to Kuçi, the Kosovo Police actively protect approximately 170 Orthodox sites across Kosovo.
These protective measures include routine patrols, supervision of cemeteries and religious sites, and the enhancement of security protocols when potential dangers are identified. Furthermore, the police are responsive to any credible information regarding potential threats to these sites. He specified that a dedicated police presence guards 24 Orthodox churches and monasteries around the clock, seven days a week.
In addition to these monitored sites, over 40 other spaces belonging to the Serbian Orthodox Church are also secured. These continuous efforts underscore the institutional commitment to preserving the religious and cultural heritage within Kosovo. Kuçi’s statements emphasize that consistent security measures are in place to maintain the safety of the Orthodox community and its properties.
