Lawyer of former fighter Bekim Meta: We presented arguments against the request for pre-trial detention, awaiting the court’s decision

Bekim Metës, the lawyer representing veteran Luan Tasholli in connection with the UÇK war, has been officially notified regarding a formal request submitted by the Basic Prosecutor’s Office in Pristina. The prosecutor’s office has sought the imposition of pre-trial detention for Tasholli. In response to this filing, Tasholli’s defense team has formally submitted comprehensive objections and detailed legal arguments challenging the necessity and basis of the prosecutor’s request.

According to Metës, the submission of these counter-arguments marks the conclusion of the defense’s procedural actions at this stage. The matter now rests with the judiciary, as all parties await a decision from the court. Metës indicated that the defense has thoroughly presented its position to the court.

He expressed the expectation that the court will review the submitted arguments alongside the initial request. The defense’s primary hope, as articulated by Metës, is that the court will rule against the measure of pre-trial detention, thereby allowing his client to remain free and defend himself without the imposition of the most severe custodial measure. The proceedings underscore a standard legal challenge within the judicial system, where the defense contests the preliminary measures sought by the prosecution.

The focus now shifts entirely to the court’s deliberation process as it weighs the legal arguments against the initial request for detention.
