Lego builds giant World Championship trophy with 1.3 million bricks

Lego World Bread has erected an 8.4-meter-tall replica of the World Cup trophy outside Rockefeller Center in New York. This massive structure, built using more than a million Lego bricks, is situated within the fan park at Rockefeller Plaza in celebration of this year’s World Cup, hosted across the USA, Mexico, and Canada. The installation is a 25:1 scale model, significantly enlarged from the life-size 1:1 Lego World Cup trophy that Lego previously introduced ahead of the tournament.

According to Christophe Vietti, Senior Designer at Lego, the primary goal of the Lego World Cup Trophy is “to unite people through the love of football and play.” He added that the structure elevates the celebration and functions as a central feature during the final stages of the FIFA Fan Fest. The use of the Lego building system allows the brand to create an immersive centerpiece for the festivities. The sheer scale of the Lego replica makes it a prominent landmark, drawing attention to the convergence of sport and play.

The World Cup, a major global event, has been complemented by this large-scale artistic display, integrating the recreational appeal of Lego with the prestige of the World Cup trophy.
