The heads of Neighborhood and Village Councils in Mitrovica have formally requested a resolution regarding compensation for their service, citing that they have not received payment for the work performed within their respective communities over an estimated period of five years. According to Isak Hajra, Chairman of the Neighborhood and Village Councils in Mitrovica, the local council heads have maintained continuous, on-the-ground engagement, focusing on addressing the immediate demands of the citizens. Hajra stated that despite their sustained efforts in the communities where they were elected, the council heads have gone without compensation for nearly five years.
He further elaborated that while the council heads have consistently performed their duties, the Municipality has reportedly failed to provide necessary support. According to the Chairman, even when the council heads submitted specific requests for funding required to develop their activities effectively, the Municipality has been unable to meet those expenditures. The collective demand from the council heads centers on establishing a formal mechanism for compensating their commitment and ensuring the financial resources necessary for their continued operational capacity.
The issue highlights a significant governance dispute concerning the remuneration and logistical support provided to local council leadership within the Mitrovica area.
