LSDM: Inflation may have decreased, but the consumer basket remains difficult to reach

The opposition party, LSDM, has responded to Prime Minister Christian Mickoski’s assertion that Macedonia exhibits the lowest inflation rate in the region. LSDM contended that such statistical data fail to accurately portray the actual economic circumstances experienced by the general populace. According to the party, citizens’ daily realities are determined not by statistical reports, but by their personal incomes and their capacity to afford essential necessities.

LSDM noted that even if the inflation rate has decreased, the cost of a standard consumer basket remains prohibitive for a significant segment of the population. “Inflation may have decreased, but the consumer basket is still difficult to afford,” stated LSDM. Furthermore, the opposition party argued that the current level of inflation exceeds the projections outlined in the government’s program and accompanying Budget.

The party’s critique suggests a disconnect between official economic metrics and the tangible economic struggles faced by Macedonian citizens. While acknowledging a reduction in the inflation rate, LSDM maintains that this improvement has not translated into a sustainable improvement in the affordability of daily living expenses for many households.
