The Labour Ministry of North Macedonia (LSM) announced a large-scale worker protest scheduled for May 1st, International Workers’ Day. The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Workers’ Union of LSM headquarters. According to LSM Chairman Slobodan Trendafilov, the protest is a direct result of the union’s ongoing efforts to increase worker wages.
The central slogan for this year’s demonstration is “We fight for wages and we do not yield.”
Trendafilov highlighted that the minimum wage was recently adjusted by the Ministry of Economy and Labour without consultation with social partners, specifically the Union of Macedonian Trade Unions. The increase amounts to 1,667 denars. He stated that data obtained from the State Statistics Office indicates [the text abruptly cuts off].
