The Vetëvendosje movement in Pristina conducted a symbolic protest in front of the municipal building, involving the placement of bags of waste. According to representatives from the group, the action highlighted significant sanitation issues across the city, asserting that local neighborhoods have devolved into waste dumps. During the demonstration, LVV pointed to systemic problems within the capital city, specifically targeting alleged instances of nepotism and corruption within public contracting.
They stated that these issues are undermining local businesses throughout Pristina. “There are reasons for protest; uncleanliness is one of them,” a representative stated. “Today, we symbolically reminded Përparim Rama of the major problem Pristina faces.
Our neighborhoods have been turned into waste dumps.”
The group further criticized the municipal waste management infrastructure. They noted that despite a budget exceeding 153 million, the Municipality had allegedly failed to procure any new waste collection trucks. Furthermore, the movement raised concerns about the composition of the ‘Pastrimi’ Company workforce, pointing out that out of over 900 employees, fewer than 150 were dedicated cleaning workers, while approximately 750 were administrative officials.
The protest served as a public denouncement of the perceived mismanagement of public services, centering the critique on the accumulation of waste and the deteriorating cleanliness of the neighborhoods within Pristina.
