At the Central Family Medicine Center in Gjakova, medical staff have observed a marked increase in patient volume during both April and August. Beyond seasonal illnesses, which commonly present with symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting, healthcare providers have also treated patients suffering from sunstroke.
According to Flori Bakalli, a family medicine specialist at the Emergency Unit, the patient influx has increased significantly over the past two months, coinciding with rising temperatures. While seasonal viruses remain the primary cause of concern, manifesting as gastrointestinal distress, vomiting, and related issues, cases of sunstroke have also been noted, which is typical during periods of high heat. Doctors report that the elderly and children represent the most vulnerable populations within the community.
The surge in admissions reflects the combination of seasonal health risks and the physiological stress imposed by the elevated temperatures. This pattern highlights the need for increased vigilance regarding both communicable diseases and heat-related ailments in Gjakova.
