Meta launches a more affordable range of smart glasses with artificial intelligence

Meta Platforms and EssilorLuxottica have unveiled a new, more affordable line of smart glasses incorporating artificial intelligence, building upon the market reception of their previous Ray-Ban devices. The new Meta glasses are priced starting at $299, representing a notable decrease in cost compared to the $800 Ray-Ban Display glasses released in the previous year. Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has committed substantial investments, amounting to billions of dollars, toward tracking “personal intelligence.” The company anticipates that advanced electronic devices and wearable technology will integrate the benefits of artificial intelligence directly into the hands of individual users.

While the development of this new line is a collaboration with Luxottica, the glasses themselves represent a departure from the company’s established eyewear brands, such as Ray-Ban or Oakley. This new collection of glasses is available in a range of updated colors and styles. The strategic move aims to broaden consumer access to AI-enhanced wearable technology through a more accessible price point.
