Meta has implemented enhanced privacy features for its latest generation of smart glasses to address user concerns regarding the visibility and reliability of the recording indicator. Previously, the smart glasses featured an LED light on the frame’s side that would pulse when the camera was active, alerting nearby individuals that recording was in progress. However, some users have reported that this small indicator is susceptible to being easily obscured or lost.
In response to these concerns, Meta has introduced updated privacy protections for its newest smart glasses. This new functionality is designed to prevent the camera from recording if the side LED indicator is tampered with. This safeguard is currently available on Meta’s second-generation smart glasses and subsequent models, with plans for a full rollout across all of the company’s smart glasses line.
The system incorporates automatic detection capabilities that can identify if the LED light has been covered or sustained damage. Should any tampering be detected, the camera will automatically deactivate, thereby preventing unauthorized recording. These measures aim to reinforce user privacy and transparency while the smart glasses continue to integrate advanced camera technology.
