Ministry of Transport: Inspectorate will remove the illegal structure in the old center of Ohrid

The State Inspectorate for Construction and Urbanism (ISHNU) has initiated forced administrative relocation proceedings concerning an illegal structure located in the historic center of Ohrid. This action follows an extraordinary inspection conducted by a state inspector from the inspectorate regarding a property at KP -15972, KO Ohrid 3, within the Old Town. During the inspection, officials determined that a previously issued demolition order, mandated by the State Inspectorate for Construction and Urbanism, had not been implemented by the building’s occupants or responsible parties.

The findings indicated a clear failure to comply with the established regulatory directive concerning the removal of the structure. Consequently, the ISHNU stated its intention to proceed with necessary enforcement measures to address the non-compliance. The investigation confirmed that despite the official ruling requiring the demolition, no action had been taken to remove the unauthorized construction from the protected area.

This development underscores the ongoing oversight role of the construction authority in preserving the architectural integrity of Ohrid’s historic district. The state body emphasized that adherence to zoning laws and previously issued mandates is mandatory. The inspectorate’s intervention signals a formal escalation of measures to ensure the removal of the structure, thereby bringing the site into compliance with national urban planning codes and safeguarding the historical environment.
