More grains, vegetables and livestock in Kosovo

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has released the findings of the 2025 Agricultural Farm Survey (AEB), indicating modest growth in both the utilized agricultural land and livestock holdings compared to the previous year. According to the data, the total utilized area of agricultural land expanded by 510.9 hectares, marking a 0.1 percent increase to exceed 420,000 hectares in 2025. A significant portion of this increase was observed in meadows and pastures, including common land, attributed to a rise in the number of animals.

Slight increases were also noted in the area dedicated to cereal and vegetable cultivation. Regarding crop production, arable land reached 189,000 hectares in 2025. Cereal cultivation remained the dominant use, covering 128,000 hectares, followed by allocations for fodder plants, vegetables, potatoes, legumes, and industrial crops.

The report further specifies that 34,240 hectares were irrigated at least once during the reporting period, while over 123,000 hectares were treated with pesticides. The livestock sector also reported minor upticks. The number of cattle rose to 241,423 heads, up from 240,848 in 2024.

Similarly, the sheep population increased to 211,178 heads, compared to 209,947 the prior year. KAS confirmed that the methodology and standards employed in this survey are harmonized with Eurostat recommendations, providing a detailed overview of developments across the agricultural sector of Kosovo.
