The Ministry of Interior (MOI) has reported a notable rise in the documentation of domestic violence-related criminal activities. Official data for May 2026 indicates a substantial increase in both reported incidents and formal complaints concerning domestic violence within the jurisdiction. Specifically, the MOI announced that 191 criminal acts related to domestic violence were registered during May 2026.
This figure represents a 70.5% increase when compared to the corresponding month in 2025. Furthermore, the volume of formal complaints also saw a marked escalation, totaling 137 complaints, marking a 71.3% increase over the previous year’s figures. Analysis of the registered acts shows that the primary categories involved were “bodily injury,” accounting for 130 cases, followed by “endangerment of safety,” which registered 52 instances.
Beyond these statistics, the report highlighted several severe criminal incidents. Among the most serious recorded cases was one instance of homicide reported in the Manastir area of the SPB, alongside two separate cases involving severe injury. The MOI’s continuous monitoring efforts underscore the persistent nature of these domestic safety concerns.
The substantial increase in documented criminal acts suggests a heightened level of reporting or an actual rise in incidents requiring official intervention. The data provides a detailed snapshot of the types and frequency of violence being addressed by law enforcement agencies.
