He stated that his initial mandate as KFOR Commander in 2023 followed significant security incidents in northern Kosovo, including what he described as unjustified and unacceptable attacks against peacekeepers in Zvečan earlier that year. These negative developments led to a reinforcement of KFOR to its largest size in over a decade. The presence of KFOR remains a key element in maintaining stability.
While the immediate threat level appears lower according to the Commander, Ulutaş’s remarks underscore that underlying political and unresolved issues persist. The continued focus remains on addressing these systemic concerns to ensure sustained security within the region, thereby supporting the mission objectives of the NATO-led force.
