New e-Commerce Register Published for Greater Security During Online Payments in Macedonia

The continuous expansion of online commerce necessitates heightened security measures within the sphere of electronic payments. To address this growing requirement for consumer protection, the Association for E-Trade of Macedonia (AETM) has released the updated Electronic Merchants Register. This resource allows citizens to verify whether the online stores they patronize are officially registered and verified.

Data provided by the People’s Bank highlights the scale of the digital marketplace. According to figures from 2025, a total of 1,829 points of electronic trade were registered across the country. Furthermore, 1,396 of these locations were deemed active, having conducted at least one transaction based on the BPRMV methodology.

The Electronic Merchants Register serves as a comprehensive and unique database specifically cataloging local online sellers who accept card payments. By maintaining and updating this register, the AETM provides a vital tool for consumers navigating the digital economy. The functionality of this register is crucial for building trust in online transactions, ensuring that consumers can confidently conduct their electronic purchases knowing they are dealing with verified entities.

This proactive measure underscores the industry’s commitment to enhancing the security infrastructure supporting Macedonia’s growing online retail sector.
