The finalization of the Kërçovë-Ohër highway project is nearing completion, with officials announcing that the most challenging ten-kilometer segment is slated for opening in the coming months. The full commissioning of the entire route is currently scheduled for May of next year. During an appearance on Kanal 5’s program “Vesti Plus,” Deputy Minister and Minister of Transport, Aleksandar Nikolloski, addressed the timeline, noting that the Ministry’s resources are primarily dedicated to this undertaking due to various inherited infrastructure challenges.
Nikolloski detailed the complexity of the difficult section, which encompasses several major engineering components. These include a gallery, a most, and multiple viaducts. A significant feature of this stretch is the tunnel, which Nikolloski described as the longest in the country.
This tunnel structure is comprised of two distinct sections, measuring 2 kilometers and 2.1 kilometers, respectively. The minister’s comments underscore the substantial scope of work involved in bringing the entire highway to operational status. The phased opening of the difficult segment is expected to precede the overall inauguration of the route next May, marking a significant development for regional connectivity.
