Nikolloski: UNESCO decision expected for the Trebenište–Qafë Thanë highway at the end of June or the beginning of July

The construction of the Trebenisht–Qafë Thanë highway remains slated for continuation, according to the Minister of Transport, Aleksandar Nikolloski. Nikolloski confirmed that the definitive finalization of the project’s specific route will occur following consultation with UNESCO. During a statement to “Koha,” Nikolloski acknowledged that UNESCO has expressed concerns regarding the proposed trajectory.

However, he provided a timeline, indicating that a conclusive decision is anticipated by the end of June or the beginning of July. The Ministry of Transport emphasized that substantial efforts will be dedicated to presenting arguments supporting the currently proposed alignment. Officials stated their intention to strongly advocate for the viability of the existing route, asserting that it represents the optimal engineering solution for the project.

Minister Nikolloski affirmed the commitment of the Ministry to defending this specific route during the review process. He noted that the final determination hinges on the outcome of these expert reviews. If the Ministry’s technical arguments are accepted by the relevant bodies, the highway will proceed along the established path.

Should the review process lead to a different conclusion, alternative measures would then be necessary. The Ministry’s focus remains on ensuring the project moves forward while adhering to international consultative standards set by UNESCO.
