Customs Directorate Seizes Gold in Multiple Smuggling Attempts at Skopje Airport
Skopje – The Customs Directorate has reported three separate attempts to smuggle gold through Skopje International Airport over the past two weeks. Authorities seized a total of 285 grams of gold, estimated to be worth approximately 23,000 euros, following the detections. Director of the Administration, Boban Nikollovski, stated that the Directorate is actively monitoring global developments and identifying potential risks.
“We are focusing on recognizing suitable risk profiles,” he explained. These incidents follow a previous successful disruption at the Bogorodicë border crossing, where an attempt to smuggle gold was thwarted. In each of the three attempts, the gold was confiscated, and criminal charges have been filed against the individuals involved.
Nikollovski highlighted previous successful operations, including the seizure of 1.7 kilograms of valuable jewelry prevented from entering the country at Skopje Airport. The Customs Directorate continues to emphasize its vigilance in preventing illicit trafficking and maintaining border security. The three attempts underscore ongoing efforts to combat smuggling activities.
